Key Participants in Legislative Debate of State Budget and Taxes to Speak — As the Louisiana Legislature’s debate on the state budget and possible tax increases comes to a head, three key House members will discuss the state’s options this Tuesday, June 9 at the Ronald Reagan Newsmaker Luncheon.

Speakers will be Rep. Joel Robideaux, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and author of the SAVE plan; Rep. Lance Harris, chairman of the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation, and Rep. Cameron Henry, who has obtained signatures of 85 House members pledging to override a possible gubernatorial veto of the state budget.

The event will be held at Café Américain, 7521 Jefferson Hwy. The reception begins at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at 12 noon.

Two Baton Rouge state senators who serve on the Senate Finance Committee — Sen. Dan Claitor and Sen. Bodi White — will come if their schedule permits, but as of now the Senate is supposed to work through lunch on Tuesday.

The current fiscal session of the Louisiana Legislature has been mired in a sometimes bitter debate over the budget and taxes. The session will adjourn Thursday.

The Ronald Reagan Newsmaker Luncheon, which is held on the second Tuesday of each month, is sponsored by the Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish.

The event is open to registered Republicans, invited guests, and members of the news media. The audience and the media will have the opportunity to ask questions of the legislators. Lunch is $17, payable to the restaurant, and is complimentary for members of the media.

Call for Volunteers This Saturday http://www.capitalrepublican.com/?p=406 http://www.capitalrepublican.com/?p=406#comments Fri, 22 May 2015 12:34:57 +0000 Capital Republican http://www.capitalrepublican.com/?p=406

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS! BEAT THE DEADLINE!

From Woody Jenkins, Republican chairman for East Baton Rouge Parish…

Please join me this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon as we help put the proposed City of St. George “over the top”!

We’ll meet in Ralph’s parking lot at the corner of Tiger Bend Road and Jones Creek Road next to the Firestone store. Then we’ll divide up and take neighborhoods to walk to get signatures on the St. George incorporation petition. Some of us will sign wave on key intersections.

The deadline for turning in petitions is Thursday, May 28, but this is the last weekend to really get out and work. The word is, they have just topped the magic number of required signatures. However, this will not be enough, because some will be disqualified. Ideally, volunteers can gather 500-1,000 more signatures this Saturday and insure victory! I’ll be there Saturday morning, and I would love to have you with me!

The Republican Party of EBR has officially endorsed the effort to incorporation of St. George on the ballot this fall for voters to decide.— Woody Jenkins
